I'm working on an easy reader called "Otto and Cleo," and I'm at the character development stage. I can't decide which style I prefer, the dot eyes or the more expressive eyes. I'd appreciate any opinions!
I prefer the lower cat, and like both dogs but think perhaps a slightly 'more' than dot eye would work! But not as large and solid as the eyes of the ones above. Those are a bit too cartoonish for my liking... a personal preference! Can a compromise of sorts be made, with maybe a broken outline to a slighly fuller eye that is completed when colour is added?
Janet, I love the second cat, but prefer the first dog - maybe with not so round an eye. Is it possible to go somehwere in between a dot eye and the full eye in dog #! - perhaps with an eyelid? Great sketches, and good luck!
My first impression, I liked the dot eyes but I see your dilemma! I go back and forth! But one thing is for sure, they are both adorable!
ReplyDeletei much prefer the 2nd cat. i like both dogs but do prefer the 1st... maybe with the 2nd's eyes to match styles?

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comments, everyone. June, I like your idea of a compromise. I think I'll give it a try!

I like the dot eyes personally, but add an upper eyelid line to help in the expression arena. Very Cute.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love your sketchbook idea. I need to do that.
