Well, OK, technically this isn't a debut, since I've been posting my digital experiments, but I just submitted by first totally digital project to a publisher: 48 illustrations for an educational workbook. I remember my Spanish teacher in college saying, "If you REALLY want to learn Spanish, start dating a boy who only speaks Spanish." There's nothing like necessity to speed up the learning curve. This was a pretty tight deadline, so I had to learn a few shortcuts along the way. There were times when I really just wanted to chuck it all and go back to my paints and brushes, but in the end, I'm glad I'm learning to use this new tool.
Congratulations! Looks great! Very gouachelike! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Janet! It must have been kind of nerve wracking to have so many to do! But it looks great! I agree - it has a nice painterly feel. Lovely work! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYou have done a beautiful job. The computer world is really great fun. I am eager to hear more about your new project. This could also work for Illustration Friday this week as a duet.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Janet. Are you going to do the Wisconsin Illustrator's intensive digitally? And was that your college Spanish teacher's way of trying to get her son a date? ;) And did you date him?
ReplyDeleteThanks all, you're very kind. Actually, when I look at it now, I want to go back and fix it! Do more rendering and pump up some colors, etc.. Michael, I think I just might do that assignment digitally -- another chance to practice! And no, my Spanish/Portuguese teacher was a man, but he was living with a Brazilian woman, so he practiced what he preached.
